Why do celebrities downplay their economic fortune?

I think they are just being polite and not rubbing their wealth in other people;s face, especially those that are not as fortunate. Plus it is no-one's business but theirs. My Niece once asked me how much money I had in the bank. She got "short change" from me. If you understand that terminology
