How Can I Finance a Ph.D (without loans)?

If you have to pay for a PhD it isn't worth it. Schools who do not provide full funding (tuition+stipend) do not really want you there, since if they did, they would give you some money to attend. I know maybe 50 people who are currently pursuing their PhD in just lots of fields, and not one has spent any significant amount of money on their doctoral education. I would recommend applying to a few different places and seeing what kind financial aid package the schools that accept you provide. Mys current package changes from semester to semester. For my program I always get full tuition plus a little over $20k a year, but some semesters I teach a cl or two, and others I am a research istant, it depends. I hope you find a place that funds you! Good luck!
