What was the book of Revelations about?

Many bible schoolers say is was Rome, a prophesy about his own time, and not the future. However I think The symbols in Revelations can fit any age. I think it has been fulfilled over and over again. Also there have been many anti-Christs. Could be wrong, but I don't think so.
