My co-worker was laid-off this way, what do you think?
I arrived to the office and our immediate supervisor told me "the general manager want us for a meeting in ten minutes". I asked my other co-workers what was going on and nobody had an idea. So we went to the meeting room where everybody was there (around 20 people). He started saying "from the last review management, a restructuring has been done and therefore our workforce has to be reduced as no new orders are coming, so six people are being terminated in head office and one person here. It is not a performance issue, it is based on the basis that our backlog of projects is reducing. Right now, a consultant is in a meeting informing her about the decision. PLEASE STAY HERE UNTIL SHE IS GONE". He left and then came back in ten minutes and said "okay, you can go back to your cubicles, she is gone". They didn't even let her say good-bye to us. Why would a company treat like this to an employee who gave the best of her?
