Do u think 9mm Hollow points are effective for self defense?

Many people say that 9mm FMJ are not as good as other calibers for self defence such as the .45 ACP. If you are using 9mm Hollow Point hydra shok rounds though does this change the game. It gives more expansion and knock down power and the 9mm has less recoil which would make follow up shots easier.
